Porter's 1st annual Chef's Club is sending three of its best to the May 30th CHEF'S CLUB SHOWDOWN. The county's top middle school chefs will be competing for the title of 2013 Chef Club Showdown Champ.
Porter SCA is sponsoring the SHOE BOX PROJECT. Flyers went home last week.

CONGRATULATIONS! to the “Battle of the Books” Team that WON their final competition at Pennington Traditional School this past Friday, April 19th. They competed against 11 other teams in Faquier, Culpeper, Loudon and Prince William Counties.
This is the first win for Porter! Way to go girls!

Porter ranked in top 25 in Northern Virginia!
The current online Northern Virginia Living Magazine (northernvirginiamag.com) has named 14 Prince William County elementary schools among the top 25 percent in Northern Virginia. The ranking is based on SOL tests, teacher credentials, safety records, programs and awards, and the percentage of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. The PWCS elementary schools are Alvey, Antietam, Bennett, Cedar Point, Henderson, Lake Ridge, Marshall, Mountain View, Old Bridge, Pattie, PORTER TRADITIONAL, Rosa Parks, Springwoods, and Westridge.

Porter receives Virgina Board of Education award!
AND….Porter Traditional and Mountain View Elementary School were named yesterday as recipients of the VIRGINIA BOARD OF EDUCATION EXCELLENCE AWARD in the annual Virginia Index of Performance (VIP) Awards program. The schools are among 51 in the state that have met all state and federal accountability benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and made significant progress toward goals for increased student achievement and expanded educational opportunities set by the Board.

The Virginia Middle School Association identifies high performing middle schools. The VMSA must recognize three things in a high-performing middle-grades school to designate it as a Virginia SCHOOL TO WATCH:

One of the best ways to be informed about what’s happening at your school and the School Division, especially in emergencies, is to sign up for PWCS E-News. This is never more important than when a safety-related issue occurs that requires an advisory such as “secure-the-building.”
PWCS E-News is a Web-based, online service that provides timely and up-to-date information about the ongoing activities of the School Division. Subscribers can choose to receive a variety of information such as emergency announcements and school closing announcements, news from individual schools, or a daily digest email of School Division news, and much more. Messages can be sent to your home email address.
To register online, visit the PWCS Web site and click on the “PWCS E-News” icon. Then select “Sign up now.” Additionally, as part of the School Division’s ongoing commitment to communicate effectively with all audiences, the Office of Communications Services maintains “official” PWCS Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube social networking Web sites.
